*An excuse to experiment with the sunset mode on my camera

I realise that I haven’t updated my blog in a while (woops!) but in the meantime I have been taking lots of photos and have been enjoying the excruciatingly brief glimpses of summer.

Talking about that extraordinarily beautifully warm season, I’ve decided that high-waisted shorts will be one of my staple items for summer. Ever considered wearing shorts somewhere but decided that they’re too casual? Well luckily for you, high-waisted shorts exist, and if you team up the dressier kind of HWS (in other words, not denim) with a fantastic blazer, you have an outfit that even Blake Lively would be proud of.

 Three Top Tips:

-The short HWS style have the effect of elongating the legs. YES.

-You can even wear a crop top with them and they still appear classy.

-Don’t attempt to be ‘indie’ and leave your shirt untucked.

Under the Aussie Sun

View of Surfers Paradise, Gold Coast AUS

Arriving back to my hotel room to work on my blog after a strenuous day of lounging around the pool and eating gelato is such a tiresome task. Sarcasm aside, dragging myself off the pristine beaches of the Gold Coast and onto my laptop, smacking me immediately back into reality has reminded me of how entirely selfish I’ve been by not blogging about my seriously uneventful but lovely adventures on the coast. Plenty of delicious food has been consumed, numerous sale racks have been emptied and many happy snaps have been taken.

As hinted in the title, I have been basking in the glorious Australian sun (always wearing sunscreen, of course) and managed to tear myself away from my beach towel to capture some scenes.

I saw these bikinis and purchased them 5 minutes later. These 50’s style high-waisted bikinis are incredibly cute and are prone to compliments.

Perfect colour for summer. OPI ‘Tasmanian Devil Made Me Do It’.

With the Runways

On Friday night I experienced something considerably significant in any fashion bloggers life – I attended my first fashion runway show. Such a milestone, I know.

This week has been the annual Melbourne Spring Fashion Week and I was lucky enough to witness the talents of brands such as Friend of Mine, From Britten P/L, Leopold, Nobody, Limedrop, Strateas and Carlucci and White Suede.

Snapbacks proved to be a necessary accessory as they were featured in a few collections

The show was surprisingly short, but I loved every second. The standouts of the evening included the snapbacks, 3/4 leggings under shorts for men, bright colours, denim vests and floral prints. Mesh tops with visible bras were very common, and although they are a stand-out trend for this season, I can’t decide whether they are hot or trashy. Moving closer to trashy. Nonetheless, it was inspiring to see such a diversity of designs in time for Spring and Summer. I don’t think I will adopt snapbacks as an accessory though.

The dress was actually red, just bad lighting.

Well that was fun. Can’t wait to do it again!

An 18th Century Affair

Recently I was involved in my school’s production of ‘Amadeus’, a play by Peter Shaffer based around the fictionalised lives of composers Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Antonio Salieri. Set in Vienna, Austria in the 18th-19th century, the play is witty and exceptionally well-written and filled with surprisingly quirky and lovable characters.

When performance time came along, so did the fabulous costumes. With my camera at the ready, I couldn’t resist taking a few (or many) snaps of how regal and dashing everyone looked.

*The names mentioned are of the characters in the play

Emperor Joseph II & Van Sweiten
Mozart & Salieri
Count Orsini Rosenberg
Constanze
Katherina Cavalieri
Devoted Citizens of Vienna (meinthemiddle)

A truly nutritious meal

I think that if you were lucky enough to be alive in the late 18th century, you would’ve had a blast with the flamboyant fashion. Although it seemed stiff and formal at times, you absolutely cannot refuse a powdered wig, a breath-taking corset (that became less so in the early 19th century) and shiny shoes with a great big gold buckle. Three-quarter length sleeves with lace cuffs were also very prominent in this time for women, as well as clothing made from imported cotton and silk. Silk was very pricey but popular among the upper class and came in a variety of gorgeous colours and patterns. The lower  class to middle class people usually had only one or two outfits- one for work and another for formal events. Imagine how empty their wardrobes would’ve been (if they could afford one..). Women wore petticoats and men wore breeches. I wouldn’t mind spending a day or two in Amadeus’ time- as an upper class citizen of course. I like to have options.

A great big thank you to the wonderful costume ladies and a huge congratulations to the cast and crew!
